XXIII FITISEP (aka the reason I was away)

Hello, friends! I'm sorry I have been away for so long, but I'm an idiot who didn't prepare for my busy life and long story short, I didn't have the time to write posts in the past couple weeks, and this is me letting you know why that happened.

The first thing you need to know is what the hell is a Tuna, and that is an academic group of people who play songs. My favourite Tuna is TAISEP (Tuna Académica do Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto) and every year they host this festival called FITISEP. Ever since 2012, they make a parody music video to present at their festival. This year's video is called "Oh Chefe", which means "Oh Boss", and this time I actually got to help them out with the whole thing and I even show up in there (funnily enough, I show up the moment the subtitles say "these Portuguese (people) are mentally retarded"). It is a bit offensive, yes, but to be honest I find the translation more offensive than the original parody, so it's mostly a language barrier.

This is clearly a parody of Netinho's Milla, and its lyrics can be roughly translated as:
MILLA: So, boy? What is it going to be today?
QUIM MIGROU: Good afternoon... I want... a mocha latte with a bit of... vanilla... and a bit of cinnamon on top... and, girl, do not forget the napkin... please.

Oh boss
These Portuguese are cold during Christmas
Uber drivers end up at the hospital
And the people only talk about their national team
I come here (to) relax just so it won't go bad
Accept me back, (sh)it got real
I'm suffering in Portugal, in Portugal

Everything started at my parents' home
You called me:
"Dude, there's no money to pay you!"
Everything started when I couldn't take it anymore
Baiano emigrated
My father paid the ticket to Portugal

My first impression was
"What a cool country"
But here there are no orgies in carnival

Oh boss,
These Portuguese are mentally retarded
They catch Pokémon™ just to look cool
And go to Urban to see Maria Leal
Here, even the laws are ignored
"They're like virgin girls,
they're to be violated"
I'm suffering in Portugal, in Portugal

MR. HENRIQUE: Friend, is it time to go? One more glass, or is it time to leave?
Of course, if you're not aware of what's happened this year to our country, you won't understand those references, and if you are not into Portuguese memes, then you'll definitely not get most of the jokes in this video. I could explain them to you if you want, but I only intend to pinpoint the easter eggs in that video, which are quite a few:

  1. The waitress' name is Milla, clearly a reference to the original song.
  2. Both Milla and Cristiano Ronaldo wink at the camera.
  3. Portuguese's The Price Is Right is basically a meme here, which explains it's appearance.
  4. When the boss calls, the name popping up is "Poderoso Chefão", which is literally translated as "Powerful Big Boss", but it's actually the Brazilian name for the movie "Godfather".
  5. The posters in the main character's room are Brazilian memes and Roberto Leal (a Brazilian singer who got really effin' famous in Portugal back in the 90's or so); and Roberto Leal is shown again later in the video.
  6. In the ticket, you can see that the airline company is named Samba Airlines, and the main character's name is Quim Migrou, which in Portuguese sounds a lot like "(o) que emigrou" which can be roughly translated as "(the one) who emigrated".
  7. In the post credit scene, which is itself a inner joke from and for the people who studied/study in ISEP, most of the stuff in the menu are misspelled, like "we have understandes" instead of "we have barnacles", because the Portuguese name for those things is "percebes", which happens to be the same word for (you) understand.
I am very proud of how this video turned out to be, so I really wanted to share it.

Honestly, though, FITISEP only took me a week to get over with, and I really wanted to post about this sooner, I actually started writing this post about a week ago, but then I would barely spend any time in front of my computer to write, because I simply didn't have the time. The week after that, school high-fived me in the face with a chair, my flatmates too and then I had three anxiety crisis, got back on my meds and wasn't really in the mood to get any close to the internet, for I knew I would overshare and it's not exactly safe to post online "I want this person to die" because then they might actually die and BOOM you're in jail. Well, kinda. I watch a lot of TV shows.

Anyway! I hope you enjoy that video as much as I do! Please let me know what you think in the comments bellow!

Peace ♥
